An overview on how to have the perfect professional website.

domain name registration

A domain name is the name that people will use to find your web site. This should where possible be the same as your business name i.e: www.tesco.com. There are then numerous types of ending that can be registered for each domain name, the two most common in the UK are:

  • .co.uk - recommended for companies trading within the UK
  • .com - recommended for companies trading on an international level or who's website contains information relevant to the rest of the world

Other options to consider include .net, .org , .org.uk and .ltd.uk

Domain names registration is for a period of 2 years minimum with the option to renew. We can however, purchase a .com for you for up to 15 years, this, if done at the time of purchase, will get you a higher Google PR earlier on in the life of the website because spiders and robots will be able to determine how many years a domain name has been purchased for.

website design

Clients can have as much or as little input into the visual design of the website as they please as each site is designed specifically for that client, therefore ensuring a totally bespoke service.

Where businesses already have a recognised corporate image, we ensure that image is reflected in the design of the website by work with any colour schemes, logos and fonts the business uses.

If the company is new or does not have any particular identity we can help design logos and choose colour schemes and font styles to help create a corporate image.

'brochure' or 'e-commerce'

The 'brochure' or 'shop front' style of website is the most common of the two categories. As the name suggests, it is essentially an on-line brochure that is used to provide information about your business and its products or services to existing and potential customers.

The second category, 'e-commerce' essentially means electronic commerce which translates to selling online via the internet. For business with products that can be or are sold via mail order directly to the end user, or for business to business sales, an e-commerce web site should be seriously considered as an additional sales tool.

website construction

Once the design concept of the website has been agreed, the construction of site is then carried out. It is fully constructed in-house at white noise using a combination of programme coding and leading design software.

The number of pages that make up the website, and the amount and type of information to be included on each determines the time it will take to construct the website.

upload

Once the web site has been constructed it is ready for publication on the world wide web. This is done via a file transfer process (ftp) from our computers to your web space in your previously registered domain name.

website maintenance

How often you wish to update your website depends on the information it carries and the market you are trying to reach. It is important to keep your website up-to-date, particularly concerning current information about your business and its products or services.

At white noise we offer a flexible maintenance contract to suit all of our customers. The contract is based on a low hourly rate with no monthly or annual fee, so you only pay for work that is done. Simple.

Training

Geared specifically for the total novice who is interested in learning how to use the internet for business purposes or just for their own knowledge, we are able to spend what ever the necessary time is off-site or internet based to bring them up to a confident standard.
